Director of Public Works:


The City of Seminole is seeking qualified candidates for the Director of Public Works.  The incumbent will perform highly responsible administrative, technical, and professional work in planning, organizing, managing, directing, and coordinating the employees and activities of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for the management of Public Works staff, including Infrastructure, Parks & Grounds, Building Maintenance and Administrative personnel.

This position is responsible for managing:

  • Departmental Budget
  • Equipment
  • Long-range work programs and projects
  • Short-Range work programs and projects
  • Capital Improvement programs and projects

This position requires close coordination between the Public Works Department and other internal Departments/Divisions as well as other government agencies and private sector groups concerning City transportation, buildings, grounds activities, utilities, citizens’ calls and concerns, and any other areas identified as being related to current or future Public Works activities and/or responsibilities. Performs the technical and administrative functions required for special projects assigned by the City Manager. The nature of this position requires a considerable part of each work week to be spent in the field monitoring related work and contracts. The Director is responsible for the administration and oversight of all contracts (including all formal communication with contractors) within those areas of responsibility as assigned by the City Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Public Administration, Management, or some other field that would qualify one to perform the essential functions of this position. Minimum of five (5) years experience in progressively responsible supervisory position in Public Works or related field including three(3) years of supervisory experience of modern methods, procedures, and practices of Public Works activities in the public sector.  Ability to obtain a Class B, CDL Driver’s License within ninety (90) days of employment. Ability to obtain NPDES certification.

The salary range for this position is $71,918.97 - $104,282.50.

Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications.
